TBR Football have claimed that West Ham United and Chelsea are the two clubs currently leading the race to sign Tottenham target Ivan Toney.

Various outlets have continued to back Tottenham to test the waters with a move for Toney this summer, with the latest such update coming from GiveMeSport last week.

The outlet suggested that Man Utd have some reservations about the 27-year-old while Arsenal do not consider him a target, thereby opening the door for Ange Postecoglou’s men to test Brentford’s resolve with an offer.

However, on Friday, journalist Graeme Bailey told The Spurs News that Tottenham are only expected to push ahead with a move for the England international if the Bees’ asking price drops below £40m.

West Ham and Chelsea in pole position for Ivan Toney

The same information has now been backed up by TBR Football, who say that while Tottenham ‘like’ Toney, they are unlikely to bid above £40m for the striker.

The report says that the two most likely destinations for the Brentford star this summer are the London Stadium and Stamford Bridge.

The publication adds that West Ham have made it known to Toney’s entourage that they hold ‘a firm interest’ while Chelsea have also begun work on the deal.

It is quite puzzling why many of the top clubs do not appear to be pressing ahead with a move for Toney. If Postecoglou does want to add a centre-forward to his squad this summer, one would have thought that the Brentford star would be at the top of his wishlist.
