talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein insisted Sir Alex Ferguson should return to Manchester United for the FA Cup final.

United suffered a miserable 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night with Erik ten Hag seemingly clinging to his job.

However, talkSPORT understands that no decision will be made on the Dutchman’s future until after the FA Cup final, which sees United face Manchester City, on May 25.

But that would be the wrong move, according to talkSPORT’s Goldstein, who told co-host Darren Bent on Drive that club legend Ferguson, now 82 years old, should be brought back on a one-game basis – the FA Cup final.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive on Thursday afternoon, Goldstein said: “I know people are going to say this is bonkers but it is not bonkers.

Manchester United for the FA Cup final against Manchester City have in that dressing room to give the speech – Sir Alex Ferguson.

“That gives Manchester United the best chance to beat Man City.”

Bent could not believe his ears, replying: “You’re bringing back someone that has not managed for ten years, for one game, arguably your biggest game. Why would you bring Fergie back for that?”

Goldstein insisted: “He has got something that no one else has. Just by walking into a room, he has it. Even now.

“Imagine you’re Marcus Rashford sitting there as a player, I don’t know where he is mentally or physically. Does he want to play down the left? I don’t know.

“But what I do know is as a Manchester United player born and bred, who knows exactly how important Sir Alex Ferguson is, Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo as well.

“You bring Sir Alex Ferguson into that dressing room at Wembley against Man City and Fergie gives that speech (clap), United have got every chance.”

A blunt Bent said: “That’s bonkers.”

Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles and five FA Cups, the last being in 2004 despite retiring in 2013.

While the chances of Fergie dropping in to take over on one game for the FA Cup final is highly unlikely at best, Goldstein is not the only talkSPORT star to believe a change is needed.

Jamie O’Hara told Jason Cundy that Jose Mourinho should be brought back for the match against City on The Sports Bar.

The former Tottenham and Wolves midfielder said: “Give it to Mourinho for a couple of weeks. Why not?

“A chance to win a trophy… they ain’t winning it with Ten Hag, forget about that. They’re done.”
