Manchester United were thrashed 0-4 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday and this was their 13th Premier League defeat this season, the most they have ever lost in a single season since the competition’s inception.

Manager Erik ten Hag was forced to make a number of big changes due to injury with Harry Maguire and skipper Bruno Fernandes both missing out.

It almost felt like the hosts were the frontrunners and the visitors almost had a free-hit in terms of they had nothing to lose and could play freely without pressure.

Instead, they collapsed as per usual with the experienced stars all looking like pale imitations of their past selves while the Dutchman refuses to tweak his faulty tactics.

EtH should have played safer to ride out injury crisis

Throughout the season, right from the first game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, it has been clear to see that this new high-transition style does not work due to the personnel at his disposal.

With injuries galore throughout the campaign, any smart manager would tweak things to try and ride out the storm. But not the former Ajax coach and things have steadily gone from bad to worse.

His stubbornness to adapt coupled with so many costly errors in the market keep painting him in the wrong light. How could he think Antony is what this club needed on the right wing?

Fans have been clamouring for Amad Diallo to be given a go but the Dutch manager has stuck with the Brazilian who hardly looks like a player capable of succeeding in the English top-flight.

The way big-money signing Casemiro and Jonny Evans defended, not too many could have guessed that the pair have won trophies galore in their career.

No wonder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was dismayed at United’s decision to throw money at such a short-term signing which would never have been greenlit at a well-run club.

FA Cup rout on the cards on current form

Rasmus Hojlund looks raw and hardly managed to win a duel and yet, he is the only senior starting option. Spending so much on only an untested young Dane looks like yet another mistake in the market.

United have conceded 24 goals in their last 11 games and with Newcastle United, Arsenal and Brighton to come next in the league, not even the most ardent supporter can envisage the team winning even one on current form.

The FA Cup final could become a rout. Ten Hag has shown that he will not change and he will persist with this style. Even an interim manager at this stage will try and play a more conservative style which could produce a new manager bounce and lead to an unlikely win!

The manager will keep pointing to injuries while INEOS keep waiting for the right managerial option. Time is of the essence. United could miss out on Europe altogether and get humiliated if the ownership does not take a big call.

Experienced players like Casemiro seemed to be giving up. This uncertainty from the top surrounding the manager is not helping lift the doom and gloom around the club at the moment.
