Reading make transfer decision regarding six-goal attacker

Reading will not be signing FC Copenhagen loanee Paul Mukairu on a permanent basis this summer, as per a report by AllNigerianSoccer.com.
Reading swooped to land the winger on a temporary basis last summer to bolster their attacking options following their relegation from the Championship and he has spent this last season on loan with the Berkshire outfit in League One.

Mukairu, 24, got plenty of game time under his belt with the Royals and made 38 appearances in all competitions, 31 of which came in the league, and he chipped in with six goals and three assists.
He is due to return to his parent club now the campaign is over and in this latest update regarding his situation by AllNigerianSoccer.com, Ruben Selles’ side have decided against luring him to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on a long-term deal and will pursue other targets in the next transfer window.

Mukairu hasn’t been a bad option for Reading this term and has provided them with competition and depth on the wing. However, it appears they have other players in mind now.
He will head back to Copenhagen and he is still under contract with the Danish club until the summer of 2025 meaning it will require a transfer fee to lure him away from Scandinavia permanently anyway, which may be what has put the Royals off signing him at the moment.

The Nigeria-born man has been on the books at the Parken Stadium since 2021 but hasn’t scored in 25 outings for the Danish Superliga side. They need to weigh up what to do with him next ahead of next season.
Mukairu started out in his native country at FC Hearts Academy before moving to Turkey as a youngster to link up with Antalyaspor.
He spent three years in the Turkish Super Lig and caught the eye there, firing eight goals in 53 matches altogether.
Anderlecht then landed him on loan in the 2020/21 campaign before Copenhagen decided to snap him up.
Reading’s summer ahead
Reading have an important few months ahead now as they prepare for another year in the third tier.
It has been a turbulent past 12 months or so but former Southampton man Selles has managed to steady the ship and has done a good job under tough circumstances.
There is likely to be both comings and goings as the Royals look to compete at the top end of the table.
They are yet to release their retained list but if AllNigerianSoccer’s report is true, it appears unlikely that Mukairu will be returning for another spell.
Reading finished in 17th place in the end and were nine points above the drop zone. They beat Blackpool 3-2 at home on the final day after goals by Sam Smith, Harvey Knibbs and Femi Azeez.
