Peterborough United host Oxford United in the second leg of their League One play-off semi final on Tuesday night with the visitors holding a slender advantage.

Peterborough United are looking to come from behind after losing to Oxford United in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final last week.

A second half goal from Elliott Moore was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Yellows.

Darren Ferguson’s Posh ended the regular season in indifferent form but have been a dangerous attacking outfit all season, especially at home. With a one-goal deficit coming into the London Road tie, they’ll be hopeful of coming from behind to book their spot in the final.

Oxford United are riding a wave of momentum though. They ended the season well to break back into the play-offs and of course, they hold the advantage coming into this second leg.

Des Buckingham will be determined to see his side maintain their lead and set up a final with either Bolton Wanderers or Barnsley. It marks a unique challenge for him though as he embarks on the play-offs in his first campaign as manager.

A tough and tense game awaits though, with potentially just 90 minutes separating the U’s and a place in their first play-off final since 2020.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is going to be a good game. Peterborough United have to come out all guns blazing if they’re to rattle this Oxford United side early and get themselves back level.

“Setting the pace quickly will get the home crowd behind them and could just unnerve the visitors. That’s exactly what Sheffield Wednesday did to the Posh in their remarkable comeback last season, and they must emulate that.

“That said, I think Oxford are capable of getting the result they need. I can see some drama and potentially extra time, but I’ll back Buckingham’s side to progress, and they might go all the way and win the final too.”

Who is this?

Harry Mail

“Peterborough United are still well in the game and will fancy their chances of turning it around on home soil.

“The Posh have players that can hurt Oxford United here and need the first goal at London Road. They need to use the disappointment of losing to Sheffield Wednesday at this stage last year to fuel them to win.

“The visitors will be pleased to be taking a lead into the second leg but it is still only a slender one. They just need to stop their opponents from scoring and they will be at Wembley.

“However, I think Peterborough United will be fired up for it and I can see them edging it in the end.”
