Derby County boss Paul Warne recently confirmed the club are looking at potential signings from The Netherlands ahead of the summer window.

Derby County have had to follow a strict financial plan following their struggles with administration a few seasons ago, but David Clowes’ takeover and now promotion back to the Championship frees them from those tethers.

The club are sure to remain wary with their spending, but there is the capacity to cast their net a bit wider now. As a result, it has emerged the Rams are looking at the Dutch and Danish markets for potential targets.

Potential bargains are there to be had in both nations.

With that said, here are three stars playing in The Netherlands who could be smart signings for Derby County…

Gabriel Misehouy – Ajax

Teenage attacking midfielder Misehouy is reportedly set to leave Ajax when his deal expires this summer. As an 18-year-old who has impressed at youth level, there may well be high profile interest in his services.

However, the Rams should consider casting eyes over the prospect as a potential target. The offer of a quick step up to first-team football could prove tempting even if bigger clubs come in.

Misehouy could be one to watch in the years to come and after his success in academy football, a senior step up may await.

Who is this?

Milan Smit – SC Cambuur

Smit is the only player on this list who is under contract going into next season and that will mean a fee is required to sign him. As a talent on the books at mid-table second-tier side Cambuur though, the asking price may not be too steep.

The 21-year-old has 24 goals and five assists across all competitions this season.

He could be an eye-catching younger option than the likes of current strikers Conor Washington, Martyn Waghorn, James Collins and more.

Josh Flint – FC Volendam

Last but not least is free agent to-be and Englishman abroad Josh Flint.

The left-footed centre-back started out with Portsmouth and spent a short time in non-league football with Bognor Regis before an eye-catching move to Volendam. There, he’s become a regular playing 26 times in this season’s Eredivisie.

However, he’ll be leaving the club when his contract runs out this summer. That could make the 23-year-old a solid option for Derby County to consider as they cast eyes over the Dutch market.
