Newcastle United are eyeing a move for a £17m-rated winger who has scored 18 goals this season, according to a recent report.

Newcastle have endured a very topsy-turvy season and injuries have massively plagued their aspirations of a top-four finish once more.

Though, of late, it seems Eddie Howe’s men have turned a corner and now look well-placed to finish inside the top six.

That would see them qualify for the UEFA Europa League, thus boosting their transfer budget and with that said, it seems club chiefs are already plotting their summer business.

Newcastle eye Irfan Can Kahveci

Newcastle are targeting Fenerbahce’s right winger Irfan Can Kahveci ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Star.

The Magpies face stiff competition from La Liga’s Sevilla and Serie A’s Lazio for his signature, however, his £17m valuation may put off the aforementioned pair.

Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are also said to be in the mix, though, no negotiations are expected to take place until the season ends on May 26.

Kahveci has enjoyed a sensational season for the Super Lig side, who currently occupy second place on 90 points.

The 28-year-old has netted 18 goals whilst laying on 12 assists, taking his goal involvements to a whopping 30 across 46 appearances.

Only former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has netted more league goals for Fenerbahce than he.

Where Irfan Can Kahveci would fit in at Newcastle United

Kahveci is primarily a right winger but can operate as an attacking midfielder and even as a number eight, evincing his terrific versatility.

If he were to join the Tynesiders in the summer, he’d be competing against Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy on the right.

The left-footed wide player would surely join with the intention of becoming an established starter out on the right, particularly with less quality down that side.

Newcastle are quite lob-sided in that sense, with the real quality of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes preferring to play off the left.

For £17m, given his goal record, it seems a no-brainer for Newcastle, so they must pounce quickly before further competition begins to mount.
