Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker has claimed that he’d love to sign one Nottingham Forest star – but he’s got absolutely no chance.

The Welsh outfit have just secured back-to-back promotions having come out of the National League as champions last season.

Under the stewardship of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club finished second in their maiden campaign back in League Two.

Forest on the other hand are still battling to secure their Premier League status for another season.

On Saturday they defeated Sheffield United 3-1 and now they are tantalisingly close to survival for another season.

Now, Ker has done an interview and he’s explained who could be next on the club’s ambitious list of targets.

Humphrey Ker would love to sign Nottingham Forest star

Well, this would be quite spectacular but we believe that Ker will be disappointed with no chance this player leaves.

The Forest star in question is Neco Williams.

Okay, the player is Welsh and it’s easy to see why Ker would dearly love the youngster at the Racecourse Ground but it’s going to prove impossible.

Williams signed for Forest in the summer of 2022 for £18 million and this season he’s really kicked on.

Ker is eyeing ambitious recruits and he’s actually namechecked Williams.

He told Sport Bible: “So, in the past, I’ve been asked this question and I’ve often cited sort of a Neco Williams as one, you know, he’s from the area, he’s a Premier League quality right-back and plays for Wales.

“The day we are signing players like that will be a sign of how far we’ve come as a football club.”

Williams be Forest star for years to come

No wonder Ker wants to sign Williams. He’s kicked on considerably this season – and much bigger clubs might fancy taking him.

In January, Williams still wasn’t considered a regular in the team but during the second half of the season, he has really kicked on.

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, he’s kicked on and it was a shame that he had to miss the win over Sheffield United through injury.

Forest paid £18 million for Williams so we’re not sure how much Ker thinks it will take to prise him away from the City Ground.

At 22-years-old, Williams is only going to improve and if Forest do secure survival, he will likely be integral again next season.

Furthermore, Wrexham have only just reached League One and it’s not clear how well they will do next season.

Naturally, given the stature of their ownership, they will flex their ambition once again.

Landing Williams is going to be a bridge too far and even Wrexham can’t afford the Forest defender.
