Diogo Jota snubs Cristiano Ronaldo while naming dream Portugal signing – but Liverpool fans won't be happy

Diogo Jota's dream Portuguese signing for Liverpool won't come as a surprise to those outside of the club, but maybe some inside it.

The Reds no.20 is known for regularly making his own goals with his incredible pressing and work rate, but he also has a number of world class teammates to help him.

With an embarrassment of riches at both club and international level, picking a Portugal colleague to join him at Anfield may be a difficult task for Jota.

However, he seemed pretty happy to snub Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes in favour of one club rival.

When asked by That's Football who he would take, Jota replied: “Bernardo. Bernardo Silva.

"For me, is one of the most intelligent football players, for sure, I’ve known.

“The way he can hide the ball from the opponents is special. I think I’ll go for him.”

The sight of Manchester City's Silva isn't the most welcome for Liverpool fans, with the attacking midfielder a regular thorn in their side during their recent rivalry.

Key in twice beating Jurgen Klopp's side to the Premier League title by a single point, when the Reds ended their 30-year wait for the crown in 2020, Silva copped some heat when he refused to clap them onto the pitch during a guard of honour.

That triggered a number of Liverpool supporters, who in turn managed to get a bite from Silva.

Tweeting in the aftermath of a disappointing 2019/20 season, he wrote: "And to all Liverpool fans that have nothing else to do than to come to a Man City player account, I'm also sorry for you but for the wrong reasons… pathetic…

"Go celebrate your titles, or try to find a partner, drink a beer with a friend, read a book… so many options!"

Regularly linked with a move away from Man City, Liverpool fans would likely quickly change their tune if the world class attacker surprisingly became available.
